Communist and wannabe Democrat Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders got some kids in New Hampshire excited and unleashed a whooping on Hillary Clinton for the ages. Bernie Sanders got 60.4% of the Democrat vote while Hillary stumbled across the finish line with only 38%. If you remember the Iowa caucuses from last week, Hillary was declared a winner based on a coin flip. Hillary is on a downward slide, and has no one to blame but herself. She is not a likeable person, and the world is getting to know her.
In the Republican primary Donald Trump trounced the entire field and collected 35.3% of the Republican vote, with John Kasich garnering 15.8 %. Kasich vaulted to the number two slot in New Hampshire after being ninth in Iowa just last week. Bush, Cruz, and Rubio were in a vitual tie for third place with about eleven percent, each. Christie, who successfully attacked Rubio in the last debate, has since suspended his run, as has Carly Fiorina.
Here’s the interesting thing. With Hillary Clinton in a downward slide is it possible that we can see a Trump/Sanders election? The match in itself would be classic in that it would pit a died-in-the-wool communist against one of the richest capitalists in the nation. Current national polls reveal that Sanders would probably beat Trump, but the election season is young.
So far, Donald Trump’s style on the election trail is not as I would like to see from a front runner. His campaign is similar to Barack Obama’s in that there’s lots of talk about how good things will be, but no substance is offered on how all that is going to happen. Donald will have to improve his delivery to beat the pseudo-intellect that is Bernie Sanders.
In the fray Jeb Bush has risen to double digits in votes. Does this mean that Bush’s campaign is no longer moribund, but has a chance at a competitive life? Some think so, but I think it would be very hard for Bush to knock off Rubio, Cruz, and Kasich before getting into the top levels of the race. I have always liked Jeb, and it looks like he is getting some much needed fire in his belly. It is too little, too late. Good luck, Jeb.
It is all coming down to the southern states, now.
South Carolina is huge for Hillary Clinton. Her campaign believes she will get most of the black vote in that state. In a state with a total population of around 4.6 million people, 1.3 million of them are black. The Democrats always make race a big part of their politics in South Carolina. Clinton is counting on winning South Carolina with the help of black people who reportedly love the Clintons.
Interestingly, the highest ranked black politician in the state is US Senator Tim Scott, staunch free-market Republican. The entire state of South Carolina, especially the black population, should be very proud of this very smart and articulate man representing them in the US Senate. The Republican Party has been able to attract intelligent, articulate, and competent racial minority candidates, much more so than the Democrats.
With another week there will be another primary. Stay tuned and see how all this plays out. With football having run its course, and baseball not starting up for several months, politics is the biggest entertainment on TV.
Politics is the game that is played for keeps.
